Hi! I’m Natalie,
Aspiring musician and classics enthusiast
Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Natalie, aka Nat B, and I'm here to explore the relationship between classical music and the classics.

I'm 16 years old and currently studying at a conservatoire in London. As a young violinist, I’ve been lucky enough to take part in international orchestras, music festivals and have had masterclasses with luminaries like Soovin Kim, Jennifer Koh, members of the Harlem Quartet, Muir Quartet, BSO and the Philharmonia. One of my recent highlights was performing with Maxim Vengerov in Belgium.
When I'm not immersed in music, I'm likely indulging in my other passion, the classics. As I marvel at the depth of Aristotle's principles or the fullness of Herodotus' account of Thermopylae, I often wonder how these narratives have influenced Western thought and continue to reverberate in contemporary society.
The more I read, the more I’ve come to realise the significance of classical thinking in defining the music that I have been performing, composing and conducting. My goal, in these blog posts, is to trace that influence, look at how ancient philosophy has shaped Western music and our appreciation and understanding of it. It is from this place of curiosity and excitement that I dive into this pursuit. I'm eager to share my discoveries and hope you enjoy reading about them.
