Blessings of the Immortals

Some days, when we find ourselves torn from triumph,

We feel that all our efforts become meaningless,

Our confidence—shattered.

Yet, as the sun sinks below the horizon

And the shadows of night begin to creep in,

A strange sense of tranquillity is cast upon us,

A spell of slumber, to which no one is immune—but you.

So as you stare out into the unwavering stars,

A sight that promises life in the darkness,

Close your eyes and listen to the gentle hum of the air,

Remember this prayer:

May the blessings of the immortals be with you.

May bright-eyed Athena guide you through

Dark chasms of unknowns,

With gleaming spear in hand,

And beacon of wisdom in the other.

And Dionysus, with his kantharos of wine,

Fill your cup to the brim,

Bestowing lavish comforts,

Fortune and festivities.

May heavenly Aphrodite

Nurture Eros’ seeds of attraction

So that they might blossom into

Boundless fields of snow-white myrtle,

Bringing you infinite love and joy.

May you be granted godspeed,

Glory in all journeys you undertake,

Floating above stirring winds,

Riding on the winged sandals

Of the luck-bringing messenger.

And she of the public hearth, Hestia

May she bring you domestic bliss,

Warm your heart with glowing flames,

Sparks, crackles, and laughter from upturned lips.

May Apollo show you the light, the Sun,

The truth in music and harmony,

By lifting the soul and warding off evils

With the sweet songs of the lyre.

And from the almighty Zeus,

King of the immortals, god of the gods,

May his lightening give you strength and power,

The kind that can move mountains

And hold you to the wall of justice and morality.

May the blessings of the immortals be with you,

And remain with you, always.
